Plastic creates waste

• more than three out of four  plastic water bottles end up in the trash instead of recycled. That amounts to about 765,000 tons of plastic bottles piling up in U.S. landfills each year.
• Plastic bottles also end up in our oceans and the hardest hit is the Pacific Ocean where there is 20,000 bits of floating plastic per square kilometer
• The recycling rate for plastic bottles is very low; only about 13 percent end up being recycled
